We are a community run library and community hub in Dane Bank, Denton. As well as regular library services such as book borrowing, computer access, photocopying and printing, we also have activities such as a choir, knit and natter group, yoga, community cinema, rhyme time, regular arts, crafts and creative activities and other events throughout the year.
In 2012, the beloved Denton West End Library faced a potential closure, leaving a gaping hole in the heart of our community. Undeterred, a group of passionate residents formed the "Friends of Denton West End Library" and vowed to fight for its survival.
Through tireless campaigning and unwavering dedication, the community challenged the closure, sought an extension, and ultimately, dreamt of owning the library themselves. Their vision was to create a space that not only fostered a love of reading but also served as a vital hub for learning, socialising, and connection.
Their efforts culminated in a remarkable achievement: on June 28th, 2013, the newly formed charity "Denton West End Community Library" successfully purchased the building from the council. This incredible feat was a testament to the power of community spirit and unwavering determination.
Today, the library thrives as a beacon of knowledge and connection. It's no longer just a place to borrow books; it's a vibrant space hosting story time for children, adult learning classes, and various community events. It's a testament to the unwavering support of volunteers, donors, and the entire community who continue to make this vital resource a reality.
We are a completely independent self-funded charity and receive no regular income from the local authority or your council tax payments.
It costs £1650 per month to keep the doors open and we rely on the generousity and support of our local community to keep the library running.
